MFT Idol Top 8 Entry ~ Jewelry Set

Well here we are, week 3 of the MFT Idol Competition and let me tell you, it's getting tougher and tougher to come up with new and interesting ideas each week! I did, however, have my EUREKA moment Sunday morning while watching my DD play with a new toy she just bought at the Dollarama...shrinky dinks!! I bought some shrinky dink paper about 2 years ago with the intention of stamping on it and making something really cool...did I mention this was TWO years ago!! Lol!! Well now was my chance!

Our challenge this week was to use the BRAND SPANKIN' NEW April set Girls Night Out and make something with that theme! This set will be available tomorrow night at 10PM EST @ MFT !!

So I was thinking to myself...what does a girl need when she's going out?!? ACCESSORIES!!! Jewelry is an absolute must and nothing tops an outfit off better than a sweet designer handbag!!! And so my entry was born!

I used that awesome Rockabilly Specialty paper from SU! I LOVE it and will definitely be ordering more, if for nothing else, to keep me from hoarding it!! The card is a combination of all the papers I used on the rest of the project to keep it all matchy-matchy! The ladies' champagne glasses are done in CE and that fun flower is from the Pretties kit (another thing I tend to hoard)!

I had SO much fun creating this jewelry! I learned how to make paper beads a while back and tend to make them every chance I get (they are great on those little corner bookmarks)! If you've never made them before, simply cut a thin strip of dp on an angle, apply adhesive (leave the part that will create the hole dry) roll into a bead and then add some sort of paper glaze to them to give them that 'finished' look! I've had the intention of making jewelry with them forevah and I bought the stuff I would need to do that a looong time ago (it's no wonder my room is a disaster!) I'm glad I did though as it sure came in handy this week!
I made the charms by stamping the 'drinks' on to Shrinky Dink paper, colored, punched the holes and 'shrunk'! I was thrilled to see how well it worked...I am lovin' me that stuff!!!
The bracelet fastens by a magnet...so cool! The display thingy is from my Mom...she collects/sells vintage jewelry and she gave me some displayed on one of these! Thanks Mom!

I have been hoarding my Purse Die-Cuts that were available from SU! a few years back!! I've been saving them for a special occasion and I figured the Idol contest was pretty special so I hauled one out! The groovy textured paper is from a pack I got from the $ store...I thought it was perfect for this!! The handle is two pieces of ribbon stitched together and I made a really cool gift tag for it that you can see in the pic of the whole set! Added some bling (Ok...lotsa bling) and called it done!! This will be the box that holds the jewelry when I give it away! Seriously...who WOULDN'T want custom made MFT jewelry?!?!
So I guess that's it for this week! You can find the MFT Ido Top 8 Gallery here! I can't wait to see what the other contestants have come up with...and if you haven't had a chance...check out the Judges Gallery...they are ON FIRE this week!!
Please come out and vote! (preferably for ME!! ;)) The POLL will open at 10pm EST on Tuesday (tonight) and will be open until 10pm EST Wednesday night! Remember that you can vote for as many entries as you like but you can only vote once!

Sassy Gift Set

Hey friends! So I recently picked up a little job cleaning the office my sister works in...it's perfect as it's only a few days a week and it totally works with my kids' schedules. Not to mention that it will give me a few extra stampin' $$!! Anyway, I thought it would be fun to make her a little surprise to leave on her desk for when she arrives in the morning!!

I love this lady from Sip by Sip! I bought her because I could make her say virtually anything I want! I made sure to seperate the speech boubble that she comes with before mounting her though!. I found this hilarious saying in a thread on SCS (quirky card sayings?) and figured my sis would get a kick out of it also, as she seems to deal with 'stupid people' regularly...or so she says...maybe she means me...I dunno!

So then I needed a sort of box to put some tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and chocolates in. I went into my files and found Qbee's Flower Pot Box ... I think she may very well be some sort of template guru as I believe she has designed a few...check out her blog!

I used the Key To My Heart papers from CTMH and the card sketch is based on Jen del Muro SFYTT! The coffee pot accent has Crystal Effects on it...not that you can tell in the photo!!

Hopefully this starts my sisters day off nicely...she deserves it!!

Well, that's it for now! Today is the day the we upload this weeks creations for the MFT Idol contest and I still have to get my photos ready to go! Voting starts tonight at 10pm EST so make sure you check out the MFT Member Forum I'll be posting my entry in a little while....stay tuned...I'm really excited about this one as I had SO much fun making it!!!

OCC Color Challenge

This is the card I made for my first official challenge for Our Creative Corner! Kim came up with these beautiful colors to work with: Navy, Mustard, and Bashful Blue! Use the link to head over to the OCC blog for a look at the other beautiful creations the team came up with!! AMAZING!!
I used my Linen bg stamp on the Top Note panel and did a little sponging around the edges with Creamy Caramel (I don't have More Mustard...whatupwiddat??) I've had that twine forever and I'm always happy to make a card that matches with it!! I colored the stamp with my SU! Markers and did the 'thumping' technique on the flower centers. The blossom in the corner is actually a denim flower...another thing I've had forever in my stash!!
I have to admit I'm already REALLY enjoying this blog thing...I'm a little worried that the housework and children are going to suffer even more now...YIKES!! Please keep an eye out for constant changes here as I learn to add cool blinkies, winkies, widgets, and doodads!! This is going to be a fun ride and I hope you'll be back to visit often!!

"Well It's About Time"

C'mon...you know you were thinking it!!! I know I am...lol!! So many fun things have been going on in my stamping life lately that I thought I better get off my duff and get a blog up and running!! The fact that I have recently stepped up in the world and acquired a HIGH SPEED connection helps too! (for any of you that are wondering...yep, I really was on dial-up all this time!)
So... three things have happened recently that brought me to where am I tonight, typing my first post on my Blog Debut:

1) The Hanna Stamps Design Team recently had their first blog hop and they were kind enough to allow me to participate even though I didn't actually have one! It was confusing for people when they landed on my SCS Gallery at the end of the hop! I'm sure everyone enjoyed it just the same...but it'll be even better next time!! Not only that...all the cool designers have their own blogs!

2) I recently auditioned to become an MFT Idol and made it into the Top 10! How exciting is that?!?! My last project, which I will post pix of later, included a travel folder that a few of my kind commenters asked for a tutorial on...ABSOLUTELY!! But it sure would be easier if I had a BLOG!!!!!! I've made it throught the first two rounds BTW, so make sure you come and vote on Tuesday at 10pm EST...you have until Wednesday 10pm EST!

3) Just the other day, the super talented Cindy Haffner contacted me and I asked me if I would like to design for Our Creative Corner Challenges!!! Ummm....OKAY!!!!! I have been following their blog since day one and I have been in awe of the talent they share every Saturday!! It's truly an honor to be invited into such a talented group! They have another great challenge for us this weekend so please feel free to join in and play!!

Now I was going to add a pic of my OCC challenge card but it wants to put the photo at the TOP of the post...that's not where I want it and I have no clue how to make it so it's at the bottom of the post!! *sigh* It's getting kind of late and I need to get some sleep so I will ask some questions and post it tomorrow! Ah well...it's all part of the process!
In the mean time...thanks for taking the time to read my first official blog ramblings!! Feel free to comment with any advice on placing my pix where I want them!! lol!
